Nevada plumbers and pipefitters

Here's how plumbers and pipefitters in Nevada are saving money on their health insurance this year

Nevada plumbers can still purchase nationwide PPO coverage. Nevada Health Link has also introduced state-designed plans that deserve a comparison. Whether you're working in Las Vegas, Reno or a rural county, let's see how the new coverage fits alongside your other choices.

Hi, I'm Sam Jaber. I specialize in health insurance brokerage, I'm licensed in Nevada, and you can work with me entirely by phone.

Nevada plumbing contractors work everywhere from expanding Las Vegas valley neighborhoods to residential and industrial construction around Reno and Sparks. Older sections of both cities generate repair jobs, while desert temperatures and hard water take their toll on plumbing lines and water heaters. If you own a shop, there's a new consideration when shopping for 2026 health coverage: Nevada has introduced another category of marketplace plans. Let's look at what those plans mean for your options.

You can still get a nationwide PPO in Nevada

The new state-designed coverage isn't your only choice. I can still arrange a nationwide PPO for you in Nevada.

For 2026, Nevada Health Link offers 138 individual medical plans through 9 insurance companies. Every plan is an HMO or EPO, so there are no marketplace PPOs. HMOs and EPOs generally limit outside-network coverage to emergencies. PPOs also contribute toward out-of-network doctor visits, although at greater cost to you, and don't require referrals. Private nationwide PPO plans use medical underwriting, meaning your health influences the premium.

What the Battle Born State Plans are

Nevada's Battle Born State Plans began with the 2026 coverage year. They're state-designed options available through Nevada Health Link alongside traditional marketplace plans. The federal Nevada plan file identifies 29 individual medical plans with the Battle Born name, all classified as HMOs.

These plans give Nevada Health Link shoppers additional choices, but they don't introduce PPO coverage. Like the marketplace's other options, they're network-based plans you'll want to compare by premiums, participating doctors and covered prescriptions.

Scenario 1 of 3

My shop's profit puts us in the credit range

Consider a plumbing shop owner whose household income qualifies for federal premium credits. We calculate that income from business profit after trucks, pipe, fittings, fixtures, licensing, insurance and helper wages. When you fall within the credit limits, Nevada Health Link will almost always be the lower-cost route because marketplace coverage is the only place those credits apply.

Here's the comparison I'd make with you:

  • Compare the after-credit premiums for Battle Born State Plans and all other available HMOs and EPOs in your county.
  • Verify that your family's physicians and preferred hospital participate in each network.
  • Review each plan's prescription formulary to confirm your medications are covered.

The lowest monthly premium doesn't necessarily mean the strongest choice once we've checked those three things.

Scenario 2 of 3

We're over the credit range and healthy

When your plumbing shop earns more than the premium credit limits allow, Battle Born State Plans and other marketplace coverage all come at full price with network restrictions. That's a good time to compare private nationwide PPOs. Medical underwriting means answering health questions before the carrier decides to approve you, deny coverage, or approve it with one previous condition excluded. Healthy families often find these premiums lower than unsubsidized marketplace rates.

Scenario 3 of 3

A slow year

Nevada's expanded Medicaid program may cover you when household income is no higher than 138% of the federal poverty level. If your shop carries workers' compensation insurance, remember that it applies to workplace injuries, not general medical needs.
