Here's every insurer I've identified as leaving the marketplace in 2027 across the states listed below, how reliable each finding is, and how many counties are affected. Last reviewed October 5, 2026.
Hi, I'm Sam Jaber, a health insurance broker licensed in 36 states. Each fall, people call me after getting a notice that their health plan is ending. This year, I'm hearing from more of them than usual. I put this page together to give those folks what they need: a state-by-state look at the companies I've found exiting the marketplace for 2027, the strength of the evidence behind each exit, and the number of counties affected.
The labels matter here. I use Confirmed when an insurer, state agency, or news report directly quoting one of them clearly establishes the exit. Reported means I've found a missing rate filing or another report but haven't verified it against an original source. Disputed means the information conflicts. I won't treat those cases as definite departures, and you shouldn't either until you receive your notice.
Cigna is the largest individual change. Its quarterly SEC filing states: "In April 2026, the Company announced its planned exit from the Individual and Family Plans medical business as of January 1, 2027." The decision covers every state where Cigna offered individual coverage, both through and outside the marketplace. Among the states covered here are Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. If your individual policy is with Cigna in one of those states, you'll need to select different coverage for 2027, even if you were happy with your current plan.
We've seen this kind of exit before. For 2026, CVS Health withdrew Aetna from the individual marketplace, saying it had "decided to exit the individual exchange business" in areas where Aetna offered its own ACA coverage. Across 14 states included here, an Aetna insurer submitted 2025 rates but filed none for 2026.
Many affected customers ended up with a different insurer last year, including Cigna, Molina, CareSource or Baylor Scott & White. Now some are being forced to switch again, making it two changes in two years. If you're in that position, I'd rather see you choose your next plan yourself than let the marketplace decide. Make sure your doctors participate before enrolling.
I reviewed each state's 2027 rate filings using the federal rate review website, state insurance departments, or state marketplace publications where available. I also checked insurer announcements and SEC reports. For the county counts, I used federal marketplace plan data from 2026 to identify which insurers offered coverage in each county, then calculated which would remain after the exiting companies were removed.
These figures don't yet include insurers that might begin serving a county in 2027. The updated 2027 plan listings generally arrive in late October, and I'll revise the state pages once they're available. For now, the county counts are a starting point rather than a final picture.
The county totals use each company's 2026 plan offerings, without including new companies arriving in 2027. "Left with one insurer" means just one company continues offering marketplace plans in that county.

Straight answers, no sales pitch.
Here's the list of confirmed insurer exits covered on this page. Cigna is leaving every market where it offers individual plans. Baylor Scott & White is exiting Texas; CareSource is exiting Indiana, Ohio and West Virginia; Medica is exiting Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma; Molina is exiting Illinois, Kentucky and Ohio; Mending Health is exiting Oklahoma; PacificSource is exiting Montana; Cox HealthPlans is exiting Missouri; UnitedHealthcare is exiting Georgia; and Ambetter is leaving Delaware. Molina has also been reported as leaving Florida and Mississippi. You can find the complete state-by-state breakdown in the table.
Yes. Cigna has announced that it will stop offering individual and family medical plans effective January 1, 2027, everywhere it currently sells them. The affected states covered here are Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
Yes, but the confirmed marketplace departure is in Georgia. The Georgia insurance department identifies UnitedHealthcare as leaving Georgia Access for 2027. UnitedHealthcare says individual and family policies will remain available outside that marketplace. I haven't verified a marketplace departure in any other state covered here. Georgia customers with UnitedHealthcare marketplace coverage should choose a replacement during open enrollment.
Start with the notices from your insurer and the marketplace. Read both, rather than relying on an automatic transfer. Your state's page shows which options remain in your county. Choose before the enrollment deadline, and call me if you'd like help reviewing the plans or comparing them with a nationwide PPO quote.
Let me know which state and county you're in, along with what the letter you received says. I'll walk you through the coverage that's still available, compare those prices with a nationwide PPO, and help you decide what makes sense before the deadline. I'm licensed in 36 states, and we can handle everything over the phone.
