Here's how small-business owners in Nevada are saving money on their health insurance this year

Although Nevada Health Link doesn't offer PPO coverage, I can still help you get a nationwide PPO. Here's what Nevada business owners should know about the new Battle Born State Plans before deciding how to insure their families.

Sam Jaber, licensed health insurance broker

Hi, I'm Sam Jaber. I'm licensed as a health insurance broker in 36 states, including Nevada. I help business owners arrange family coverage by phone, whether they operate a North Las Vegas landscaping business, a Reno café or a solo consulting company in Henderson.

Consider a married couple in Sparks running a small sign-making business. While reviewing Nevada Health Link plans for their household, they notice a name they haven't seen before: Battle Born State Plan. They know it's connected to Nevada's public-option-style initiative, but aren't sure whether it offers the best value. I'll explain how to compare these new plans with the other coverage available to a business owner.

You can still get a nationwide PPO in Nevada

Nevada Health Link lists 138 individual medical plans for 2026, including 131 HMOs and 7 EPOs. There are no PPOs. Battle Born State Plans are included within those totals, and none provides PPO coverage.

I can arrange a nationwide PPO outside Nevada's exchange and help enroll your whole family. The insurance company uses each person's health information to determine pricing, while the national provider network can be helpful for travel, college attendance in another state or visits to a California specialist.

What the Battle Born State Plans are

Battle Born State Plans began with Nevada's 2026 coverage year. They're standardized plans designed by the state and offered through Nevada Health Link alongside existing marketplace options. Federal plan records identify 29 Battle Born plans among the exchange's 138 individual medical offerings. Those 29 plans are all HMOs, provided by 3 insurance companies.

Having a standardized benefit structure helps you compare one plan against another because the coverage follows a shared format. Still, Battle Born coverage operates as an HMO, generally excluding nonemergency treatment outside its provider network. Before choosing one for your family, make sure the doctors you actually visit participate.

How to compare them for your family

  • Write down the doctors, specialists and hospital each person in your household prefers
  • Compare the networks of Battle Born plans with other county HMO and EPO options
  • Identify any family members receiving medical treatment beyond Nevada
  • Check whether this year's household income qualifies you for marketplace premium credits
Scenario 1 of 2

The family qualifies for the credit

When your household qualifies for premium credits, Nevada Health Link coverage will generally cost less. A Battle Born plan could be particularly attractive if your doctors participate in its network. But don't compare Battle Born plans only with one another. Include every other available plan that covers the providers your family needs.

Scenario 2 of 2

Profitable company, healthy family

When income exceeds the credit eligibility range, the full premium becomes your responsibility regardless of the plan. For healthy households, that's a good reason to compare a nationwide PPO. The insurer evaluates each person's medical answers and can approve coverage, decline it or approve it while excluding a named condition. These plans often cost less than unsubsidized marketplace insurance and provide nationwide network access. We'll review the specific benefits together.

A lean year or a growing team

When business earnings are extremely low, Nevada's Medicaid expansion may cover adults with income up to 138% of the federal poverty level. Bringing on an employee who isn't an owner or family member can also open the door to SHOP group insurance. Keep monthly business earnings updated so increases or decreases can be reflected quickly when reporting income and comparing coverage.
