Here's how realtors in Arkansas are saving money on their health insurance this year

I can arrange a nationwide PPO privately in Arkansas, but the marketplace also offers PPO-designated plans priced close to POS coverage. Here's how Bentonville and Rogers realtors can decide which option fits.

Sam Jaber, licensed health insurance broker

Hi, I'm Sam Jaber. I hold licenses in 36 states and help Arkansas realtors arrange their health insurance by phone.

Consider a real estate agent based in Rogers who works throughout Benton and Washington counties. Her listings include new construction in Bentonville and Centerton, established homes near the university in Fayetteville, and lakefront properties around Beaver Lake. Many buyers are relocating for corporate positions or jobs with vendor offices, arriving from places such as Texas, Minnesota and California. Her income depends on completed transactions, since she receives commissions at closing, and her brokerage doesn't provide a health plan. She shops through HealthCare.gov and discovers that Arkansas offers a marketplace selection quite different from what agents encounter in neighboring states.

You can still get a nationwide PPO in Arkansas

For 2026, all Arkansas counties offer the same 52 individual medical plans. Of those, 28 are classified as PPOs and 24 as POS plans, with neither HMOs nor EPOs available. PPO pricing is also competitive. For an unsubsidized 40-year-old shopping silver coverage, the lowest-cost PPO is only 3% above the lowest-cost POS option.

I can also help you purchase a private nationwide PPO in Arkansas. That coverage uses a national network, with pricing based on your answers to medical questions. Since marketplace PPOs are already close to POS prices, Arkansas realtors should focus on comparing the marketplace and private PPO alternatives.

What your commissions decide

Marketplace premium assistance depends on household income during the coverage year and ends once earnings exceed four times the federal poverty level. For real estate agents, calculate that figure by starting with gross commissions and subtracting brokerage splits, desk fees, MLS and board dues, signage, staging expenses and travel between Bella Vista and Fayetteville. Arkansas has expanded Medicaid, and KFF reports that adults may qualify with income up to 138% of the poverty level.

Arkansas individual coverage became more expensive this year. The Arkansas Insurance Department approved a 22.2% weighted average rate increase for 2026.

Scenario 1 of 3

My closings keep me in the credit range

Use HealthCare.gov if you want the premium credit, since it cannot be applied elsewhere. The credit is based on a benchmark silver premium, leaving you responsible for any extra cost. Here, that PPO difference is around 3%. PPO-classified plans pay toward out-of-network treatment with a higher share for you, so check how each policy handles care outside Arkansas when traveling. For most credit-eligible agents, a marketplace PPO that includes their doctors is a sensible option, and I'll tell you when that's the case.

Scenario 2 of 3

Closings were good and so is my health

Once your earnings exceed the premium tax credit range, you're paying full price for every marketplace plan. With this year's premium increases, that can be expensive. I'd compare the marketplace PPO with a private nationwide PPO at that point. Private coverage requires a medical questionnaire, and the insurer may approve your application, approve it with one specific diagnosis excluded, or decline it. Agents in good health often qualify for premiums below the marketplace's unsubsidized rates while gaining access to in-network providers in other states. Since the benefits aren't identical across plans, I'll review the differences with you carefully before you choose.

Scenario 3 of 3

The market cooled and so did my year

If sales fall off and your income approaches the poverty threshold, recalculate your estimate. Arkansas Medicaid may cover you at or below 138%, although a work requirement becomes fully effective in 2027. When closings recover, report your income change to HealthCare.gov and return to marketplace coverage.

Questions realtors ask me

Straight answers, no sales pitch.

Does the Arkansas marketplace sell PPO plans?

Yes. Across every Arkansas county, 28 of the 52 marketplace medical plans are classified as PPOs. The lowest-priced silver PPO costs only 3% more than the lowest-priced silver POS plan, making the premium difference relatively small for agents comparing those two options.

Are there HMOs on the Arkansas marketplace?

No. The 2026 Arkansas marketplace offers PPO-designated and POS plans, not HMOs or EPOs.

Can an Arkansas realtor get a nationwide PPO?

Yes. Provided your health qualifies, I can arrange private nationwide PPO coverage.

What's the deadline for a January 1 start in Arkansas?

December 15 is the date to select your plan. Open enrollment starts November 1 and continues until January 15.

How's the year closing out?

Share your county, everyone needing coverage and your approximate earnings after the brokerage split. I'll price a marketplace PPO against a private nationwide PPO and tell you which I recommend.
