Nationwide PPO coverage is available in Wyoming. Around Jackson, that's particularly relevant because the marketplace has just one insurance company offering PPO plans exclusively. Here's how Teton County construction business owners can compare their choices.
Hi, I'm Sam Jaber, a Wyoming-licensed health insurance broker. I handle everything over the phone, which makes sense when you're trying to reach a busy valley contractor between June and October.
Think about a general contractor based in Jackson who specializes in building and renovating high-end homes. His projects take him around the valley, from Wilson and the west bank subdivisions down to Hoback. Outdoor construction moves quickly during the short season, but once snow arrives, his attention shifts to interior projects, estimates and design meetings. Housing costs are so high that half his subcontractors commute across Teton Pass from Victor and Driggs or travel up the canyon from Alpine. At home, he and his wife are raising three children. Their regular family doctor is in Jackson, but specialist appointments mean traveling to Idaho Falls or Salt Lake City. That's the kind of family whose coverage needs extend beyond Wyoming.
For this household, I'd start with an important option: nationwide PPO coverage is still available in Wyoming. If you live in Teton County, I can help you arrange that coverage and take care of the process with you.
In Teton County, choosing the right network is especially important. The 2026 marketplace has 11 medical plans, and every one is a PPO offered by the same insurance company. Lincoln and Uinta counties have that same setup. The other 20 Wyoming counties have 23 plans from 2 insurers. So if you're in Jackson, you're not really deciding between a PPO and another plan type on the marketplace. You're deciding whether that insurer's network reaches the specialists your family visits in Idaho and Utah. We should also compare it with a privately offered nationwide PPO, where your health determines the price after underwriting.
Premium tax credits depend on household income during the year you're insured. For construction owners, that's business profit after subcontractors, materials, equipment payments, vehicle financing, insurance, permits and overhead. A contractor in the valley might generate substantial revenue but retain much less as profit. The credit calculation uses that net figure. Work with your accountant on the estimate and revise it through HealthCare.gov if a project moves into the following year.
For 2027 health coverage, open enrollment begins November 1 and closes January 15. To have insurance effective January 1, select your plan by December 15. Those quieter weeks after Jackson's final framing projects make a convenient opportunity to review coverage.
An unusually slow building season or significant equipment purchases may bring your household within the premium tax credit range. Marketplace insurance is then usually less expensive because the credit applies only there. In Teton County, every choice comes from one company's PPO lineup. So we'll concentrate on its provider network, including your Jackson family physician, pediatrician and any specialists you visit in Idaho Falls or Salt Lake City. PPOs can pay toward outside-network care, but your portion is higher. An income projection from your accountant will help.
Next step: Give me your latest tax return and the names of doctors your family visits on either side of the pass. I'll compare Teton County PPO prices after your premium credit.
This comes up frequently for contractors in the valley. If your household income is above the credit range, you'll pay the full premium for any of Teton County's 11 marketplace plans. For a healthy family, I'd also price a medically underwritten nationwide PPO. Everyone applying answers health questions, and the insurer can accept the application, accept it with one previous condition excluded, or decline it. Healthy households often get lower premiums than the marketplace's full rates. The nationwide network can also be a better fit when your doctors are spread across Wyoming, Idaho and Utah. If a family member has an ongoing medical condition, tell me when we speak. That information matters, but it doesn't automatically determine which route is right. I'll compare both choices and explain what each one offers.
Next step: Call with everyone's birth year and the doctors your household uses. I'll put a nationwide PPO quote alongside Teton County's full-price marketplace PPOs.
Straight answers, no sales pitch.
Just one. All 11 individual medical plans offered in Teton County's 2026 marketplace are PPOs from the same insurer.
No. Teton County's marketplace medical plans for 2026 consist entirely of PPO coverage.
Yes. Private nationwide PPO plans are available after medical underwriting, and I can give you quotes by phone.
Enrollment runs from November 1 until January 15. For coverage beginning January 1, make your selection by December 15.
I'll need your county, who you're covering, the doctors your family sees in Jackson, Idaho Falls or Salt Lake City, and your company's net profit. Then I'll compare Teton County marketplace PPOs with a nationwide PPO quote.
